The Senior Care Guide - Senior Centers

Senior Centers - Your Neighborhood Multipurpose Center

Across America, in almost every community, any independent person over the age of 55 has available to them the opportunity to be part of an exciting place to meet new friends, develop new interests or pursue hobbies. Senior Centers provide a place for you to gather with other active, mature adults and join in educational classes, classes in crafts, writing, photography, art, dance, foreign languages, exercise and computer skills; a lunch program, and other group activities. Your Senior Center can also help identify other Federal and State benefit programs for which you may be eligible.

Literally thousands of multipurpose Senior Centers exist throughout the United States offering a Neighborhood Activity and Resource Center as well as a diverse mix of backgrounds and cultures, making for an exciting atmosphere full of vitality. Normally, these Centers are funded by a small membership fee along with County, State or Local funds. Becoming involved in your local Senior Center not only will assist you in staying active, but at the same time provides you with the opportunity to give back to your community and others by sharing your life experiences and talents. Persons of all ages with all types of skills and interests are needed to perform vital roles and enhance the services and programs at the Centers. Whether you are available once a week or once a year, a Senior Center can use your help.

The significance of Senior Centers cannot be underestimated for they provide a sense of belonging, offer the opportunity to meet old acquaintances and make new friends, and encourage individuals to pursue activities of personal interest and involvement in the community.

Look for the Senior Center in your area and state. If you don't find your local center, let us know, and we will make every effort to make sure they can be found here in the future.
