Nursing Homes in Oklahoma
The following are answers to questions families often ask:
Are Nursing Homes licensed by the Counties or State?
All Intermediate and Skilled Nursing Homes in Oklahoma must be licensed by the State. Each Nursing Home is supervised by a full-time Oklahoma-licensed Nursing Home administrator. In order for Nursing Homes to participate in the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs they must be certified. They have to comply with rigid standards enforced by regular, unannounced facility inspections and extensive evaluations.
What kind of services can nursing homes provide?
Nursing Homes are long-term care facilities that provide twenty-four hour nursing care for convalescent seniors or those with long-term disabilities that have numerous health care requirements including Alzheimer's/Dementia and are often an extention of Hospital care. Immediately after arrival at the nursing home an assessment will be done and a care plan provided. A resident's care plan will differ based on his/her care needs. Some residents will go through a short rehabilitiation time and are able to return home or other living arrangements; while others may require extensive care due to the nature of their illness or disablilities. Hopefully, with physical, mental and phychosocial help, self-care, self-direction and as much independence, as possible, can be obtained.
Can we just call a nursing home in our area and admit grandpa or grandma?
Only a physician can write an order to have a person admitted to a Nursing Home.
All Nursing Homes must have a copy of the latest State Inspection/survey available to the consumer, usually located close to the reception desk.
