Licenced Senior Care in Oklahoma
With almost a half-million seniors living in Oklahoma, it was imperative on the part of state legislators to outline a set of senior care options. When appropriate, in this section of The Senior Care Guide, you will be able to go directly to the either the state statutes or documents. The following types of Facilities and Services are now provided in Oklahoma: Adult Day Care Centers:
Facilities (Centers) that provide basic day services to unrelated adults for more than 4 hours in a 24 hour period. A Center is either freestanding or a separate program within a larger organization with its own separate space, budget and participant record system. Day services means supervised health, social supportive and recreational services in a structured daytime program. Day Care licenses are renewed annually. Assisted Living:
Assisted Living in Oklahoma is defined as any home or establishment offering, coordinating or providing services to two or more persons who are unrelated to the operator, need assistance with their personal care, perhaps need medication assistance and may need assistance with transfer or ambulation. It is not uncommon to find communities that provide other services, such as Skilled Nursing, or Alzheimer's Care or Day Care Services within the Assisted Living Community. Oklahoma has wisely provided seniors the ability to stay within a community that provides a Continuum of Care meaning that residents may not need to be relocated based on short term health issues or the ability to ambulate. Residential Care Home:
A Residential Care Home in Oklahoma refers to any establishment (other than of course a hotel, motel, or school dormitory) that offers food service and supportive assistance to its residents who are not related to the owner or the administrator. The residents are capable of managing their own affairs, normally ambulatory, (or able to transfer themselves to and from a wheelchair) and do not routinely require skilled or intermediate care. Supportive assistance means that the service provided is adequate for daily living and includes but not limited to housekeeping, assistance in the preparation of meals. Nursing Homes
Nursing Homes are long-term care facilities that provide twenty-four hour nursing care for convalescent seniors or those with long-term disabilities that have numerous health care requirements including Alzheimer's/Dementia and are often an extention of Hospital care. Immediately after arrival at the nursing home an assessment will be done and a care plan provided. A resident's care plan will differ based on his/her care needs. Specialized Facilities: (Alzheimer’s - Dementia) A “Specialized Facility” means any facility which offers or provides long term-care services on a twenty-four hour basis to a limited category of persons requiring such services, including but not limited to, a facility providing services to residents with Alzheimer’s and/or dementia. At this time in Oklahoma we have been able to locate only 3 facilities that have this type of licensure.
In most cases in Oklahoma, rather than being licensed as a “Specialized Facility”, Providers who care for Alzheimer’s or Dementia residents follow clearly defined state procedures and discloses the type of care or treatment provided, that distinguishes it as being especially applicable to or suitable for such persons. |
