Home health care services are provided by companies and independent care professionals and have to be licensed by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) to provide services in the home.

Home Health Care Services may include: Nursing Care, Physical, Occupational, Respiratory, or Speech Therapy. Also Home Health Aid Services, Medical Social Services, Nutritional Counseling, Medical Equipment and Supplies.

Homemaker and companion companies must be registered with the Agency for Health Care Administration and provide only Housekeeping, Meals, Shopping and Trips outside the home.

Day Care Centers

In Florida, there are 165 licensed centers. The State of Florida requires that adult day care centers go through a formal licensing process, including a bi-annual inspection by the Agency for Health Care Administration.

Adult day services are community-based programs providing therapeutic programs of social and health services designed to meet the needs as well as activities for adults in a non-institutional setting. These structured, comprehensive programs provide a variety of health, social and other related support services in a protective setting during any part of a day, but less than 24-hour care.

Typically, the following services in the "average" adult day care center are offered: Transportation, Social Services, Meals, Nursing Care, Personal Care, Counseling, Therapeutic Activities and Rehabilitation Therapies.

Fees: On average, adult day centers in Florida charge between $46 and $50 per day, which is a bargain. Funding for adult services comes from participant fees as well as public and philanthropic sources.
